- 12 oz elbow macaroni
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 2½ cups whole milk, warmed
- 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- ¼ tsp mustard powder (optional)
- ¼ tsp paprika (optional)
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- ½ cup panko breadcrumbs (optional)
- 2 tbsp melted butter
Cook macaroni until al dente; drain
Melt butter in a saucepan; whisk in flour for 1-2 minutes
Gradually add warm milk; cook until thickened
Stir in cheddar, mozzarella, salt, pepper, and optional spices
Combine with macaroni; transfer to a baking dish if baking
Top with panko, Parmesan, and melted butter; bake at 375°F for 20-25 minutes
