Sugar Cookie Recipe: Sweet and Versatile Treat

Ingredients
  

  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp almond extract (optional)
  • ¼ cup colored sprinkles or sanding sugar (optional)

Instructions
 

  • Whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt
  • Cream butter and sugar until fluffy; add egg and extracts
  • Mix in dry ingredients until combined
  • Chill dough for 1 hour
  • Roll to ¼-inch thickness; cut shapes
  • Bake at 350°F for 8-10 minutes; cool on rack

Notes

  • Chill the dough to prevent spreading
  • Don’t overbake for soft cookies
  • Store at room temperature for 1 week or freeze for 3 months
  • Decorate with icing or sprinkles
